Course Overview

Please note this is a fully regulated course approved by UK Awarding Body FAA and results in a Level 3 UK / Level 6 (Scotland) qualification. As this course is regulated it holds significant weight for both an organisations commitment to the health and wellbeing of their staff and the holder of the qualification themselves.

This course can be attended as on open course, a distance learning course (virtual learning with an instructor) or in-house at your office premises.

This course is designed for anyone who works or connects with children such as teachers, carers, parents, youth group leaders or indeed other young adults.

The qualification itself has been specifically designed to cover areas such as depression, eating-disorders, self-harm and bullying many of which are found to affect children and young adults. The learner will also be provided with the knowledge and skills to identify these among other mental health conditions, help them start a conversation with the individual and provide guidance and support along with knowing available avenues for professional help if required.

Having a positive approach to mental health is an asset in any environment where there are children or young adults. If mental health is openly talked about then anyone suffering may be more likely to seek help and not hide it from their peers or surrounding adults. In the end this can ultimately ensure that the child/young adult is happier and more successful.

Learners undertaking this course will be qualified as First Aiders for Youth Mental Health and can be a point of contact within the organisation or school etc to help and support anyone with a suspected mental health condition.

Learners will be awarded a regulated level 2 (level 5 in Scotland) RQF/SCQF in First Aid for Youth Mental Health and will be equipped to deal with any mental health cases which may arise

The skills and knowledge developed on this course include:

  • What is First Aid for Mental Health?
  • An understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect mental wellbeing.
  • Identifying mental health conditions, including practical skills for noticing triggers.
  • Identifying and dealing with stress.
