Please note this is a fully regulated course approved by UK Awarding Body FAA and results in a Level 3 UK / Level 6 (Scotland) qualification. As this course is regulated it holds significant weight for both an organisations commitment to the health and wellbeing of their staff and the holder of the qualification themselves.

This course can be attended as on open course, a distance learning course (virtual learning with an instructor) or in-house at your office premises.

This course can be attended by anyone and has been designed to help employers create a positive mental health culture in the workplace. Having a positive approach to mental health conditions in the workplace is an asset to organisations as it creates a a safe and non-judgemental environment both in the workplace and for lone workers and ultimately can significantly reduce staff absence and sick leave.

Learners undertaking this course will be qualified as First Aiders for Mental Health and can be a point of contact within the working environment to help and support anyone with a suspected mental health condition.

This course will give learners a comprehensive knowledge of all the most common mental health conditions and develop appropriate skills to be able to act. A First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan will be discussed and how to build one in your organisation, allowing anyone with concerns to be fully supported and guided to different avenues of professional support.

Learners will also cover the numerous effects of drugs and alcohol and how to deal with it effectively in the workplace whilst at the same time providing learners the skills and knowledge they require to help their employers create a positive, supportive and fair mental health environment for everyone.

Learners will be awarded a regulated level 2 (level 5 in Scotland) Award in First Aid for Mental Health and be equipped to deal with any mental health concerns which arise in the workplace.

The skills and knowledge developed on this course include:

  • What is First Aid for Mental Health?
  • An understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect mental wellbeing.
  • Identifying mental health conditions, including practical skills for noticing triggers.
  • Providing advice and starting a conversation.
  • Drugs and alcohol.
  • Learn how to build a First Aid for Mental Health action plan to support employees.
  • First Aid for Mental Health in the workplace.

 

Qualification:

Regulated 3 Year FAA Level 2 (Level 5 in Scotland) Award in First Aid for Mental Health (RQF/SCQF)

Course Duration:

6 hours over 1 day. Can be run over and extended period of time (up to 3 weeks).
