1 Day – Level 3 Award in Oxygen Therapy Administration

Course Overview

This course will enable delegates to administer oxygen safely and effectively to casualties with breathing difficulties. Each delegate will learn how and when to administer oxygen to a casualty along with understanding safe administration and how to safely store and carry and transport cylinders.

This course is targeted towards qualified First Aiders, Emergency First Aiders, staff in a dental care settings along with nurse, healthcare professionals and anyone else working where oxygen is available to treat a casualty or patient.

Individuals will receive a level 3 (level 6 in Scotland) FAA RQF/SCQF certificate which is valid for three years. This course includes theory and practical training in safe and effective oxygen therapy administration providing learners with the skills they require to provide prompt, safe and effective care for a casualty.

HSE highly recommends that any first aid trained person in any field requires annual refreshers courses to maintain their competency, and in particular Oxygen Therapies.

Syllabus:

• Identify indications for the use of oxygen
• Explain the benefits of oxygen therapy
• Explain contraindications which prohibit the use of oxygen
• Explain the dangers of using a compressed gas
• Outline the health and safety rules for the use, storage, and handling of oxygen
• Perform operational checks on equipment in the preparation for use of oxygen therapy
• Identify when oxygen therapy may or is required
• Administer oxygen at the correct flow rates for various oxygen delivery devices including: a non re-breather mask (a bag, valve and mask) – administer oxygen to a patient that is in line with any pre-approved and agreed ways of working.

Qualification:

Regulated 3 Year FAA Level 3 (level 6 in Scotland) Award in Oxygen Therapy Administration (RQF/SCQF)

1 day. Can be run over an extended period of time (up to 3 weeks)
