Course Overview

It is a legal requirement of companies/employers to provide a safe and healthy workplace for their employees (Health & Safety Act of 1974). Employers must ensure that their employees are adequately trained to protect themselves if they are required as part of their job to lift or manoeuvre any heavy objects (The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992).

Our course will cover in-depth manual handling and ensure that your staff now how to protect themselves and others and allow you to satisfy the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for both knowledge and training.

This course can be attended as on open course, a distance learning course (virtual learning with an instructor) or in-house at your office premises.

Every individual at one time or another is exposed to manual handling such as carrying, pulling, lifting and pushing, and sometimes this is combined with other movements such as climbing up ladders or stairs or turning and pivoting in tight spaces.

Injuries resulting from performing manual handling incorrectly in the workplace results in over 1 million working days lost every year, in addition to obvious suffering by the casualty.

Correct manual handling knowledge and techniques can make a significant difference to this number as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have evidenced. As such employers are now legally bound to adhere to these regulations and codes of practice. Employers are now legally required to provide their employees with Health & Safety training and information and where there is a larger exposure to manual handling proper face to face training is required so that staff know the risks of injury and how to prevent them.
