Half Day – Level 1 Award in Health & Safety in the Workplace

Course Overview

It is a legal requirement for companies/employers to provide a safe and healthy workplace for their employees (Health & Safety Act of 1974). It is essential that a company not only ensures a safe and health workplace but also that they have trained staff in Health & Safety procedures throughout the business. This regulated qualification will provide you with staff that have an awareness of health and safety in the workplace helps to satisfies the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for both knowledge and training.

This course provides and an introduction to health and safety in the workplace and is designed to suit any worker from any sector or industry. In addition to this, it is an excellent induction course for new employees working in medium/high risk sectors. This course can impress upon employees not only the responsibilities for themselves but also that of their colleagues and their company which helps to create an environment of high health and safety standards which ultimately benefits not only the employees of the business but the business itself.

Successful delegates with be awarded with a nationally recognised Level 1 (Level 4 in Scotland) qualification which helps to satisfy HSE requirements of an employer but also provides the basis to higher level training or career progression.

Syllabus:

• Understanding the importance of health, safety and welfare legislation and standards in the workplace
• Identification of hazards and risks and how to control them in the workplace
• Hierarchy of control
• An awareness of the main causes and effects of poor health and safety in the workplace.
• Understanding how health and safety information could and should be communicated throughout the workplace at all levels.
