1 Day – Level 2 Award in Manual Handling Principles & Practices

This 1-day course will cover basic health and safety, manual handling risks and theory along with practical experience. Learners will understand how to keep themselves and others safe when moving heavy or large objects.

Course Overview

It is a legal requirement of companies/employers to provide a safe and healthy workplace for their employees (Health & Safety Act of 1974). Employers must ensure that their employees are adequately trained to protect themselves if they are required as part of their job to lift or manoeuvre any heavy objects (The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992).

Our course will cover in-depth manual handling and ensure that your staff now how to protect themselves and others and allow you to satisfy the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for both knowledge and training.

This course can be attended as on open course, a distance learning course (virtual learning with an instructor) or in-house at your office premises.

Every individual at one time or another is exposed to manual handling such as carrying, pulling, lifting and pushing, and sometimes this is combined with other movements such as climbing up ladders or stairs or turning and pivoting in tight spaces.

Injuries resulting from performing manual handling incorrectly in the workplace results in over 1 million working days lost every year, in addition to obvious suffering by the casualty.

Correct manual handling knowledge and techniques can make a significant difference to this number as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have evidenced. As such employers are now legally bound to adhere to these regulations and codes of practice. Employers are now legally required to provide their employees with Health & Safety training and information and where there is a larger exposure to manual handling proper face to face training is required so that staff know the risks of injury and how to prevent them.

Successful delegates with be awarded with a nationally recognised Level 2 (Level 5 in Scotland) Award in Manual Handling Principles & Practices which will enable to keep themselves and others safe.

2 Day – Manual Handling Train the Trainer Course

Course Overview

This Manual Handling ‘Train the Trainer’ course is designed to give delegates the competency to train others in safe manual handling techniques. This is the perfect course for companies who want to perform in-house manual handling training such as those with large staff numbers, high staff turnover or multi-site companies. It is suitable for many sectors, such as manufacturing, office, construction, distribution, logistics, etc.

This course is taught in conjunction with the Level 2 Manual Handling Principles and Practices course. This is to ensure that trainers have the in-depth knowledge and practical skills necessary to competently train others.

The skills and knowledge developed on this course includes:

  • Manual Handling principles and practice theory/practical
  • Practical skills required for safe manual handling in the workplace
  • Trainer Roles and Responsibilities
  • Effective teaching styles
  • Implementation of a micro-teach session and presentation to group
  • Manual Handling Risk Assessments including MAC, ART and RAPP tools
  • All learners receive a manual handling instructor pack including course content, slides for teaching and videos etc

Qualification:

Two certificates are received upon successful completion of this course including a regulated FAA Level 2 Award in Manual Handling Certificate and an Advanced Safety Group Manual Handling Instructor Certificate

This half-day course gives an overview of safe manual handling along with physical practice of correct manual handling techniques.

This course is ideal for companies who require staff to be trained in manual handling risks along with safe manual handling techniques. This is a classroom-based course covering theory and practicals. All learners are required to physically demonstrate correct manual handling during the session.

Correct manual handling techniques dramatically reduce musculoskeletal injuries in the workplace; and employers have a legal duty to ensure staff are competent and trained to correctly lift, push and pull under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992. As such this course fulfils the legal obligation to train staff in these techniques.
